This Sunday, June 28, will be Senior Pastor Mike Bergman's last week at Montclair UMC. Please come and help us celebrate all that Pastor Mike has done for God's kingdom during his seven years at Montclair.
See below for more information on the pastoral transition.

New Pastor Appointed to Montclair UMC
This past Sunday, the Staff-Parish Relations Committee announced that Bishop Elaine Stanovsky plans to appoint Rev. Rhea Barningham to Montclair Community United Methodist Church as of July 1, 2009. Rev. Barningham currently serves St Paul's UMC in Boulder.
Current Senior Pastor, Rev. Mike Bergman, will continue serving Alameda Heights UMC after leaving Montclair next month. Current Associate Pastor, Rev. Kerry Greenhill, will continue at Highlands UMC and Family Voices Colorado. Both Pastor Mike and Pastor Kerry have been part-time; the SPRC decided earlier this year, based on congregational input, to request one full-time minister instead of two part-time clergy.
We ask your prayers for all who are in a time of transition, and for God's continued guidance as Montclair UMC moves forward into the future.

Pastor Kerry preaching 6/7, final Pastor @ the Pub
This Sunday, June 7, Pastor Kerry will preach in the 10:30 am service. This is her last time in worship at Montclair, though she will continue working during the week through June. Pastor Mike's last Sunday and farewell reception will be June 28.
This Sunday is also the final Pastor @ the Pub (for now). We figure, if Jesus turned water into wine for a wedding, he'd probably be okay hanging out at a bar. So bring your questions about God to talk about with a real live pastor (under the age of 35, even) - just don't expect any black and white answers!
Meet at The Elm on Colfax this Sunday at 5:05 pm. We will be a group gathering for conversation at the tables, not an official event of The Elm. All ages and backgrounds welcome (no underage drinking, of course). This is an open and affirming group.
Call the church office (303-333-7352), or email us to learn more about this and other opportunities to connect.
The Open House is a small group of folks exploring questions of faith and a way of life committed to the teachings of Jesus. Rather than just stay cooped up in a church building, we're gathering in bars, restaurants and coffeeshops to make it easier for people to check us out and maybe join the conversation in a low-stress environment. All are welcome!

Come and discuss Three Cups of Tea
Whether you have finished the book or are just getting started, come and discuss Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, with a small group of friendly people this Sunday evening. This great true story explores how one man has made a difference in Pakistan and Afghanistan by building dozens of schools in remote areas.
Meet at Moongate Asian Grill (745 Quebec St) Sunday at 5:05 p.m. for food, fellowship, and conversation. We're not an official event of the restaurant, but just look for a group with their books out at the table!
ALL people are welcome. Call 303-333-7352 or email us for details.

Prayer Walk and new Tuesday study
This Sunday, April 26, all are invited to come on a Prayer Walk of the Montclair neighborhood. We'll meet at 5:05 p.m. at Montclair UMC (12th and Newport St), and will end up at the Ranch House Cafe for dinner. Those who have difficulty walking the 0.8 miles will have an option to drive most of the way (in stages). Our goal is not to convert anyone, but to spend time in the neighborhood, looking with prayerful eyes at who our neighbors are.
And beginning on April 28, Pastor Mike and Pastor Kerry are offering a new group study on The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, by Bishop Robert Schnase. Discussions will take place at 2:00 p.m. each Tuesday, April 28 - June 2. Bishop Schnase identifies five areas in which congregations must devote time and energy in order to bear fruit: Radical Hospitality, Passionate Worship, Intentional Faith Formation, Risk-Taking Mission and Service, and Extravagant Generosity. We will consider how well Montclair is doing in each area and how we might work to improve. Please contact the church office if you are interested so we can order enough copies of the book.

The Faith We Sing-Along & Three Cups of Tea
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Easter is traditionally observed not just as a single day in the Christian calendar, but as a whole season of seven weeks. And for that matter, every Sunday is a celebration of the Resurrection.
This Sunday, we will have a special worship service at 10:30 a.m. where we sing our faith. Almost the whole liturgy will be sung from our new hymnal supplement, The Faith We Sing. All are welcome to come and try out some new songs.
Sunday evening will be our first discussion of Three Cups of Tea, by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Meet at Serioz Pizza in the Lowry Town Center at 5:05 p.m. for food, fellowship, and conversation about a mountain climber-turned-philanthropist who has built dozens of schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Stay tuned for coming events:
Prayer Walk, Sunday April 26, 5:05 p.m. from Montclair UMC to Ranch House Cafe.
Group study on The Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations, by Bishop Robert Schnase. Tuesday afternoons, April 28 - June 2.
Contact us to learn more about any of these opportunities. Blessings to you all this Easter season!
